SIBU: BASE Jumping is a new kind of adventure for local extreme sports enthusiasts who can look forward to enjoying the sheer feeling of weightlessness in just a brief moment.

David Major aka Clem, a 53- year-old BASE veteran jumper from California, USA said once the jumper takes the plunge, he thinks of nothing but pure adrenaline running through their veins.

“I’ve been a BASE jumper for the last 31 years…never for once feeling tired of it,” he said of the sheer feeling which is beyond words.

“At that point of time, you think of nothing…you just empty yourself and feel your very own presence,” he said on how easy it is for people who engaged in extreme sports to get that kind of feeling.

REHEARSAL: BASE jumpers descending from Wisma Sanyan, Sibu in their trials for their scheduled stunts between 8am and 5pm on Sept 21-22, and between 8am and midday on Sept 23. A total of 27 BASE jumpers from around the world will take their plunges from the Sarawak’s tallest building and land on designated spots in the Sibu Town Square.

“I believe it is because of that feeling extreme sports athletes are addicted to that,” said David who is coming to Sibu for the fi rst time to jump from Wisma Sanyan – the tallest building in Sarawak.

“It’s exciting (even though) the building is not very tall,” said the jumper who is here from Sept 21 to 23 together with other base jump enthusiasts from New Zealand, France, Australia and Malaysia.

Davod however preferred to jump from tall venues like buildings in Kuala Lumpur simply because he could have more time to play while in the air.

He was however impressed with the friendliness and hospitality of the locals in Sibu and that feeling is also shared by the other jumpers who look forward for a great outing.
