SANDAKAN: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman yesterday advised private oil palm plantation companies to provide infrastructure conducive to draw youths to work in their estates.
He said they should provide, among other things, accommodation, a sports field and a hall to enable the youngsters to engage in sports activities.
Many youths found it unattractive to work in the country’s plantations where about 200,000 jobs were going a-begging, he said at the launch of the Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth Job Fair at the Harbour Mall, here.
“Adequate infrastructure and comfortable accommodation can draw youths to work in the estates,” he said.
Musa said state government plantation companies, namely Sawit Kinabalu and Sabah Foundation, had implemented this approach and had drawn youths to work in their plantations and overcome dependence on migrant workers.
He said it was hoped that private plantation companies would emulate their example to help young people secure employment. — Bernama
