KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Deputy Minister Datuk Razali Ibrahim has suggested that candidates in the university campus elections nationwide improve their general knowledge and understand current issues.

He said having wide general knowledge would, among others, help them make plans for the students and their respective universities to be more competitive.

“They must not only know their field of study but also keep abreast with and understand current issues to be quality student leaders.”

He said this to Bernama after being on the panel of a forum on “Campus Elections, Undergraduates and University Aspirations” at Kolej Tun Syed Nasir 1, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), here, yesterday.

Razali said by taking such steps, the candidates as well as the other students would be able to raise their thinking level.

The other panellists were UKM political science lecturer, Assoc Prof Dr Samsu Adabi and law lecturer, Assoc Prof Datin Noor Aziah Mohd Awal.

Razali also hoped that the students would also see the campus elections from a wider perspective, that is, not just to be leaders and voters, but also as a platform to uphold the government’s aspirations in developing this nation.

“I want to see the campus elections conducted in a different manner by doing away with old thinking,” he said. — Bernama
