SHAH ALAM: The High Court here yesterday sentenced an Indian national to death by hanging for killing his employer, lawyer Datuk R Anpalagan in a temple at Kampung Perepat, Klang, two years ago.

Justice Datuk Mohd Sofian Abd Razak made the decision after he was satisfied that the prosecution had succeeded in proving the charge against R Narayanan, 25, beyond reasonable doubt.

In his judgement, he dismissed the grounds submitted by the defence that provocation was the cause of the murder. On the contrary, Mohd Sofian said the accused had a motive four causing injury and death to the victim.

Throughout the hearing, 17 prosecution witnesses and three defence witnesses had been called up to give evidence.

Deputy Public Prosecutors Mohd Azari Harun and Khairul Fikrie Ahmad Zubaidi appeared for the prosecution while the accused was represented by counsel S Selvam.

Lawyer Datuk Salehuddin Saidin held a watching brief for the victim’s family.

Narayanan is alleged to have killed Anpalagan by slashing the victim using a parang at the Sri Ramalingeswarari Temple, Lot 9221 Jalan Kebun Baru, Kampung Perepat, at 9.30pm, on June 13 last year.

He is charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which provides the mandatory death sentence upon conviction. — Bernama
