30 artificial football turfs to be completed by year-end

KUALA LUMPUR: Some RM50 million has been allocated for the construction of football fields with artifical turf and floodlights at 30 selected locations nationwide.

Work on the project is expected to commence in October and will be completed by the end of the year, according to the 2012/2013 Economic Report released by the Finance Ministry today.

According to the report, an additional RM15 million was allocated to build 150 futsal courts across the country.

Currently, there are 1,751 public futsal courts benefitting about 1.5 million users annually.

The report said the government had allocated RM30 million this year to enable athletes to compete in international tournaments especially in high performance sports.

The allocation has been utilised for several projects including training as well as development and maintaining the sports centres for the benefit of 5,192 atheletes.

“Among the high performance sports are football, squash, badminton, bowling, diving, archery and cycling,” it said. – Bernama
