KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu Football Association’s Appeals Committee yesterday rejected an appeal by suspended head coach Peter Butler claiming the appeal was ‘groundless and without merit’.

Appeals Committee chairman Mat Yusoff Mohamed said the committee was also of the opinion that the decision made by the FA’s Disciplinary Committee was apt and correct.

“He (Butler) can appeal to the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) within

seven days from today (yesterday) if he is not satisfied with today’s decision,” he told reporters after chairing the appeal meeting yesterday.

On Sept 17, the Terengganu FA Disciplinary Committee suspended Butler for six months and fined him RM4,000.

Butler was penalised for issuing a statement to the media without informing the team management, on allegations of misconduct by two Terengganu players who had breached team curfew by returning to their hotel at 3am on the eve of their Malaysia Cup match against Kedah in Alor Setar.

Butler, when met by reporters after the committee meeting, said he was not satisfied with the decision made by committee.

“I will make an appeal with FAM in seven days.

“I’ve been working in this region for the past 10 years and I always have in my soul to do the right thing for the good of my team,” he said.

News of Butler’s suspension has gone viral online and reached the shores of the English Premier League while the issue is also expected to draw the attention of FIFA, the world governing body for football. — Bernama
