KUCHING: Trainee teachers from the Batu Lintang Teachers Training College here showcased their researches at the Actions Research Seminar 2012 held at the college campus yesterday.
The 113 trainees, in their final semester from the Jan 2009 intake, consisted of those under the Science, Bahasa Melayu, Bahasa Cina, Islamic and Al-Quran, Preschool and Rehabilitation courses.
At the opening ceremony, Lecturer of Excellence Razali Yu, who represented the college’s director Awang Hambali Awang Hamdan, said the trainees’ five-year stint at the college should be justified by the outcome of their research which should depict their understanding on their courses, at the same time.
“We should realise that the varieties of innovation and instruments for educational research nowadays is proof of the advancement of the education industry in providing better learning experience and academic results,” said Razali.
He elaborated that the seminar is a good platform to showcase the capabilities of the trainees as the good research papers can be forwarded to the relevant ministries to assist in educational transformation.
“The nation needs future teachers who can think critically and creatively and are capable of settling problems, provide solutions and are innovative in their work at the same time.
This is why trainees must be able to adapt to the situation and be innovative in their work,” he added.
Relating the changes made to the Malaysian education system from the Integrated Primary School Curriculum (KBSR) to the Primary School Standard Curriculum (KSSR), the changes, he said, was a catalyst to the change in the role of teachers from normal classroom teaching to being innovative in their work.
He later reminded trainees at the college that attitude was important to change an environment at their workplace and that action research should be a lifelong practice in the working world.
The two-day seminar also aimed to train trainees in organising their own seminar based on events, nurture the habit of sharing research data, and for the trainees to receive feedbacks on their research.
The event is also a prerequisite for the trainees to pass their semester examinations.
The College Research and Professionalism Innovation Teaching Department head Chuah Kim Hwa was also present at the event.
