Despatch rider gets 12 years’ jail, whipping for robbery

KUALA LUMPUR: A despatch rider was sentenced to 12 years’ jail and five strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court here yesterday for robbing a government pensioner.

Judge K M Nithiyanantham handed down the sentence on Mohamad Azizi Mohamad Nooh, 24, after finding him guilty of the charge.

He ordered Mohamad Azizi to serve the sentence from yesterday.

Mohamad Azizi was charged with robbing M Murugavee, 61, of her necklace at Batu 6 Jalan Ipoh, Sentul, on March 25 this year.

He was represented by lawyer Nasrul Hadi Mat Saad, while prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Izuddin Mohamad. — Bernama
