BALIKAPAPAN: Eight people died in a head-on collision between a truck and a minivan in Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan, on Friday, Jakarta Globe reported news.
The drivers lost control and collided on kilometer 57 of the Semboja Highway, Kutai Kartanegara Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. I Gusti Harryarsana said. Both vehicles were traveling at a high rate of speed when one crossed the center line, he said.
“Eight passengers of the [Toyota] Avanza minivan have been confirmed dead,” Harryarsana said in Balikpapan on Friday.
The Avanza was carrying nine people. The surviving passenger is in critical condition at Semboja Hospital in Kutai Kartanegara.
“We’ve arrested the truck driver and his assistant,” Harryarsana told the Indonesian news portal tempo.co.
