Sarikei’s S’wak Cup bound football squad ready to roll

SARIKEI: Although formed barely two weeks ago, Sarikei’s Sarawak Cup bound squad is ready to take on other teams.

Sarikei District Officer, Abang Mohd Porkan Abang Budiman advised to the team members that the key to success in any competition is solid teamwork coupled with high level of discipline.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony of jerseys to the players and officials, Porkan expressed hope for the team to bring home the coveted trophy.

Meanwhile, Sarikei Football Association deputy president, Awangku Perseh Pengiran Bakar who is lead the squad all the players were reminded to play their best in order to stay in contention for the title.

We have to win as many matches as possible in the preliminary rounds and the same applies when we advance to the next rounds,” he said while disclosing that it was not his habit or style to set a target for the squad to avoid exerting unnecessary pressure on the players.

According to team manger, ASP Abdul Samat Amit, Sarikei will fight it out with Bintulu, Betong and Young Crocs B in Group A.

In group B are Samarahan, PDRM, Sri Aman and Kapit; in group C are Miri, Young Crocs A, Sibu and ATM and in group D are Kuching, Limbang, Mukah and Miri Sea Horse XII.

The teams are going to Miri today to get ready for the championship scheduled to kick-off from Oct 1 to 8.
