KUCHING: A German woman lost cash and other personal belongings when she became the victim of a snatch thief while walking along Carpenter Street here on Thursday night.

The 32-year-old victim, a teacher, was heading back to a hostel around 10pm when a lone motorcyclist grabbed her handbag as he rode past her from behind and sped off.

Among the items lost included US$200, a camera, mobile phone, iPod and personal documents.

The teacher, who was not hurt in the incident, lodged a police report later the same night.

Separately, a 25-year-old man sustained cuts and bruises on his face after he was attacked by a group of unknown persons at a fun fair early yesterday.

The victim was drinking alone at the fun fair at Mile 6 in Matang here around midnight when several men suddenly appeared and rained blows on him.

His family members were notified of the incident and brought the victim to the Sarawak General Hospital for medical attention.

The motive behind the assault was unclear.
