Islands in focus: Voter turnout 70 percent in W. Kalimantan

PONTIANAK: Voter turnout in the West Kalimantan gubernatorial election reached 70.46 percent or 2,380,230 ballots cast. The voters consisted of 1,186,127 men and 1,914,103 women, Jakarta Post reported.

West Kalimantan General Elections Commission (KPUD) head Muzammil said on Friday evening that the number of voters registered in the fixed voters’ list (DPT) was 3,377,997.

“538,266 male voters and 459,401 female voters did not cast their ballots during the Sept. 20 election,” said Muzammil.

Incumbent candidates Cornelis along his running mate Christiandy Sanjaya collected more than half of the valid votes (52.13 percent or 1,225,185 votes) to be named as the winners.

The other results were; Morkes and running mate Burhanuddin with 591,081 votes, Armyn and running mate Fathan with 361,744 votes and Tambul and running mate Barnabas with 172,016 votes.
