KUALA TERENGGANU: The Sultan of Terengganu Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin urged the people to drop their subsidy mentality in order to form a hard working and competitive society.
“And even if assistance is provided, optimise it and don’t abuse it. People should also learn how to be thankful to the government for all their help and effort,” he said.
He was speaking at the State Titles Awards ceremony at the Maziah Palace, here yesterday.
Also present was Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said.
A total of 294 individuals received titles in conjunction with the 50th birthday of Sultan Mizan, including state secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Ali Hamsa who was conferred the Darjah Seri Setia Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Terengganu title.
“It is the duty of everyone to safeguard and maintain the present unity in this state. Without a solid unity it is hard for people to face these challenging times,” he said.
Sultan Mizan also praised Terengganu’s various successes under Ahmad, citing the excellent results for the UPSR, PMR, SPM and STPM examinations and being Sukan Malaysia champion for the fourth time in a row.
He then touched upon the Kuala Terengganu bypass road through Bukit Besar and hoped that the federal government would speed up the project in order to develop the area and reduce traffic congestion. — Bernama
