Former lawyer charged with CBT

PETALING JAYA: A former lawyer pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here yesterday to committing criminal breach of trust, involving RM258,000.

K Sasi Kumar, 40, was charged with committing the offence on a retiree, J Augustine Mary, 66, who had entrusted the money to him at the legal firm of Messrs. Sasikumar and Associates, Suite 760A, 7th Floor, Block A1, Leisure Commerce Square, No 9, PJS 8/9, 46150 here between Aug 16, 2006 and Oct 19, 2006.

The charge carries a maximum imprisonment for 20 years, whipping and is liable to a fine, upon conviction.

Judge Balqis Aini Mohd Ali allowed Sasi Kumar bail of RM12,000 with one surety and set Nov 8 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Zhafran Rahim Hamzah prosecuted, while lawyer Salim Bashir represented Sasi Kumar. — Bernama
