Local man fined RM5,500 for possessing ketamine

KOTA KINABALU: The magistrate’s court yesterday fined a local man RM5,500, in default, eight months’ jail for possessing 6.08g of ketamine.

Yong Vui Yen, 21, admitted before magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus to a charge framed under Section 12 (3) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952 which provides for a maximum RM100,000 fine or jail term of up to five years or both, upon conviction.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Azaman Hamat told the court the accused was arrested for committing the offence at Damai Plaza on Aug 3.

In a separate case, the same court extended the arrest warrants of four local men separately charged with consuming syabu.

Balitus extended the warrants of arrest against Samsil Asan, 33, Hayry Hermanto, 37, Dora Awang, 35, and Zainuraffie Zainal, 22, when the four accused persons did not turn up in court yesterday. They were individually charged under Section 15 (1) (a) of the DDA 1952 which is punishable by a maximum fine of RM5,000 or a jail term of up to two years, upon conviction.

Samsil, Hayry, Dora and Zainuraffie who were released on court bail are from Semporna, Menggatal, Inanam and Kampung Sembulan respectively.

They were detained during separate operations at Kampung Lokub in Menggatal, Karamunsing Police Station and at a house in Kampung Sembulan between Feb 21 and July 31.
