M’sia can host cycling World Cup Classic — MNCF

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will have an opportunity to organise world class track cycling races, including the 2015 World Cup Classic Track Cycling championships once the closed velodrome is build in Seremban.

Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) President Abu Samah Abd Wahab said the International Cycling Union (UCI) had already started talks with Malaysia with regard to hosting the championships.

China was the first country in Asia to host the World Cup Classic, followed by Kazakhstan, he said.

“UCI are aiming to bring the Classic to Malaysia and our target is to host the 2015 Classic,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Abu Samah said UCI had suggested using British or German expertise when building the new velodrome, so as to build the facility according to the specifications.

He said the velodrome in Manchester, United Kingdom was a world class track that received praise from various parties.

Abu Samah who is also the Asean Cycling Association President said UCI had awarded the host job to China and Kazakhstan in the past, based on the quality of velodrome that they had build in their respective countries. — Bernama
