RM421,248.80 lost through Internet fraud in Pahang this year

KUANTAN: A total of 110 cases, involving losses worth RM421,248.80 have been reported by victims of Internet fraud in Pahang between January and September this year.

State Commercial crime Investigation Department acting head, DSP Muhammad Rizal Kamarudin, said most of the cases reported were for purchase of goods and gambling, known as the ‘Macau Scam’.

He said a total of 88 complaints were received from victims who claimed they did not received the items which they had purchased through the Internet good.

Most of the individuals who fell victims under this category claimed they had purchased smatrphones which were offered at a discounted price of RM800 each, from its normal price of about RM2,000, he told reporters here yesterday.

He advised the public to be exercise caution and not be easily influenced by attractive offers advertised through the Internet. — Bernama
