ALOR SETAR: The High Court sentenced a 22-year-old goat herd to death after he was found guilty of trafficking drugs, here today.

Rajaputran Ganisen was detained for trafficking 39.98 grammes of heroin and monoacetylmorphines on May 8 during a police patrol and later charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death sentence.

In his judgement, Judicial Commissioner, Mohd Zaki Abdul Wahab said that the accused’s defence amounted to a mere denial which was not credible and that the defence had failed to raise a reasonable doubt on the case against him.

Furthermore, his testimony also contradicted with the testimonies of the five prosecution witnesses, he added.
