Foreigners charged with overstaying

MIRI: Two foreigners were yesterday charged in separate cases in a Magistrate’s Court here with overstaying.

Irawati, 27, from Kacamatan Sanggau, Kalimantan Barat, Indonesia and Wawan Satriawan, 23, from Kacamatan Suralaga, Desa Bagek Payong, Indonesia were respectively charged under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Amendment 2002), which is punishable under Section 15(4) of the same Act.

Both accused are liable to a maximum RM10,000 fine or five years’ jail or both.

In the first case, Irawati is accused of overstaying in the state after her social visit pass expired on Nov 3, 2008.

She was held on Sept 21 this year at Jalan Merbau near here.

In the second case, Wawan was charged with a similar offence because her social visit pass expired on May 3 this
year.

She was held on Sept 22 this year at Jalan Oleander near Tamu Kedayan.

No pleas were taken from either accused and the court fixed Oct 9 for further mention.

Both women will be held at the Lambir Central Prison pending their hearings.
