MIRI : Miri Amateur Swimming Association (Masa) 8th President’s cup swimming championship is on today at Miri public swimming pool.
The event is jointly organised by MASA, State High Prestige Sports Unit and Miri Education Department.
According to the organising committee event officer, Jackie Pang a total of 109 participants are competing this year and they comprises of 44 girls and 65 boys from 15 primary schools as well as three pre-schools in Miri.
The event is aimed to promote the sport among school students in Miri as well as to identify new talents to be recommended for the on-going MASA Age Group Training Programme.
The championship is divided into two categories namely Boys and Girls Category with the events to be competed include 50 metres and 100 metres freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly for Primary 3 to Primary 6 pupils.
There will also be 4×50 metres freestyle relay (open).Those Primary 1 and Primary 2 students will only compete in the 25 metres events.
