KUCHING: State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul said the distribution of bonuses to workers in the civil service would only be decided after getting approval from the cabinet.

He pointed out that there would be no announcement regarding the matter at this time.

“We are awaiting endorsement from the cabinet, then we will announce it. For now, I cannot say anything yet,” he said when met at the opening of the SEDC Invitational Bowling Tournament.

He said this when asked whether state civil servants would get the same bonus that federal civil servants were entitled to as announced by the Prime Minister.

During the recently announced Budget 2013, Najib announced that federal civil servants would get a month-and-a-half bonus.

Meanwhile, in the tournament, Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) general manager Datu Sarudu Hoklai beat the other department heads to win by 501 pin-falls.

He took home a 3D2N complimentary hotel stay, 5kg pre-cooked white prawns and RM150 SaraBif voucher.

Second place went to Tourism Malaysia Promotion Board State director Ahmad Johanif Mohd Ali with 458 pin-falls and Ministry of Tourism and Heritage

Sarawak Permanent Secretary Datu Ik Pahon Joyik with 427 pin-falls.

Fifty department heads took part in the event that was held at the Riverside Superbowl yesterday.

“The bowling tournament is a good outing for us and is part of team building in the civil service, to strengthen ties between government departments and agencies,” said Morshidi.

Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) chairman Datuk Talib Zulpilip said that the event will also be held next year and will include golf.

He added that the event was also held to promote a healthy lifestyle through sports and games.
