KUCHING: Sarawak chief coach, Robert Alberts has announced trials for new Crocs’ players will be held in Miri from Oct 12 to 13.

The northern city was selected for the first leg of the trials after playing host for the recent Sarawak Cup which ended last Sunday.

“Trials will be held here this Friday and Saturday. There will be four players from Limbang which I will be looking into,” said the Dutchman who was in Miri to watch the Sarawak Cup teams in action and was visibly impressed with Limbang players.

Limbang were among the traditional minnows in Sarawak Cup but they beat current champions, Kuching 2-0 in their group match.

Limbang’s fairy tale run however ended when they were beaten by the Armed Forces (ATM) in the semi-final.

Surprisingly, ATM for the first time ever qualified for the final but was defeated by the more experienced Kuching team.

Apart from scouting new talents for Sarawak’s next year’s senior team, Alberts is also expected to select junior players for both the President’s Cup squad and the Crocs.

According to sources, there are currently 16 players on the coach’s watch list.

“We will first play a friendly match this weekend. I hope that these potential players will show us the best that they have got on that day,” he added.

Alberts however congratulated the players selected for trials with the Crocs and said that they deserve to be given a chance to don the state’s jerseys after putting on a good show for their teams during Sarawak Cup.
