SIBU: The US has some of the top universities in the world.

One of the features of American education is its overwhelming scale; the nation has more than 4,000 colleges and universities, with nearly 20 million students.

American higher education adopts two types of system, namely the two-year junior university level that aims to provide vocational training and the four-year ordinary bachelor’s degree.

INTO Centre is a teaching centre of educational institutions established in universities, to set up quality assurance on bachelor’s and master’s degrees in bridging courses, including Advanced Placement classes and Diploma classes, Master of Advanced Placement classes.

INTO’s university partnerships set up two joint ventures with American universities, the Oregon State University (OSU) and, in 2010, University of South Florida (SFU).

In February it announced a third agreement with Colorado State University (CSU).

INTO OSU was established in 2008, and is the first INTO partnership with US institutions.

OSU, founded in 1888, is a comprehensive university that is highly competitive.

Carnegie Foundation rated it the first research university of more than 24,000 students.

It is well known for its energy saving and environmental protection, and specialises in the use of green energy.

The campus covers an area of 420 acres; its red-brick buildings, shade and lush and beautiful scenery have been assessed as valuable preserving monuments, making it to be one of the top 25 green universities in the US.

OSU has 11 faculties and over 200 kinds of university courses and more than 80 graduate programmes. Engineering Department in terms of volume is ranked the top 25; the Aspen business school with AACSB accreditation is the nation’s second longest in accreditation, and its MBA among the world’s top 87 in MBA programmes.

With the nation’s highest electric energy systems laboratory, as well as the world’s largest, it has the most advanced tsunami wave research equipment.

Top courses offered are biology, forestry, oceanography, nuclear engineering, public health, biochemistry, food science, zoology and ecology.

INTO US second teaching centre was established in 2010 at the SFU.

The SFU was founded in 1956 to become the first university in Florida, and is rated a research university by Carnegie Foundation.

US News World Report assessed the University as the nation’s top 3 famous universities and 16 graduate programmes are ranked as the nation’s top 100.

It has more than 47,000 students, with 8,826 in graduate programmes and 1,465 international students.

SFU offers more than 120 kinds of university courses and 130 graduate programmes.

It has 14 faculties of arts and sciences, business, education, marine, medical, nursing, hospitality, art and the well known majors include psychology, teaching, criminal psychology, accounting and biomedical.

INTO third teaching centre in the US is located in the CSU. It ushered in the first batch of students in August this year.

CSU is one of the best schools in Los Angeles Mountains, and it started out as an agricultural academy.

Though its Agriculture course is still going well, its most famous course is Veterinary Medicine.

It has been recognised as
First Grade for high level of research activities by Carnegie Foundation and was awarded along with 40 public universities for ‘Community Participation’.

CSU is also recognised by Forbes as one of the ‘most valuable’ public universities.

CSU has eight faculties and more than 150 kinds of courses including its best non-veterinary course and other agriculture-related courses. The offers include natural sciences, biotechnology and biological sciences, atmospheric science, ecological resources, physical treatment, business, engineering, computer and information sciences.

INTO Centre provides bridging courses for the above-mentioned three universities, and upon successful completion of the bridging courses and up to certain conditions, students can directly enter into university for second year degree courses.

The course combines academic English, academic skills, and freshman core courses.
