Jobless local accused of stealing car

KOTA KINABALU: An unemployed local man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday with theft.

Andy Low Kiong, 20, was charged before magistrate Norhamizah Shaiffuddin with stealing a car belonging to a 32-year-old local man in front of a shop in Kolombong, Inanam at 7pm on October 5.

He admitted to the charge framed under Section 379A which provides for a maximum jail of seven years and also liable to a fine upon conviction.

Meanwhile, local Alli Muda Alling, 20, was charged in the same court with breaking into a house of a local woman.

The accused pleaded guilty to trespassing into the house in Jalan Sulaman here at 11pm on October 3.

The offence was framed under Section 448 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to three years and with a fine or both upon conviction.

Norhamizah set today to re-mention both Low and Alli’s cases pending the production of their social reports from the Welfare Department and they were denied bail.

In a separate case, Norhamizah put off to October 17 this year to hear the case of local Kevin Chin who was charged with injuring a woman.

The court adjourned the case at the request of prosecuting officer Inspector Syahrin Ali who told the court that an impact statement of the victim was not ready.

The unrepresented accused had allegedly slapped and punched the woman at a house at Taman Angsana in Kolombong, Inanam at 12.15am on August 1.

He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code which is punishable by a jail term of up to three years and a fine upon conviction.

The accused is released on a court bail pending disposal of his case.
