Six family members killed in car-bus crash

KEMAMAN: Six members of a family, including a mother and her three children, were killed while two others were seriously injured when the car they were travelling in collided with an express bus at Km129.65 Jalan Kuantan-Kuala Terengganu near Meraga Beris here yesterday.

The car, which was headed for Kuala Terengganu, was said to have lost control and veered into the path of the oncoming bus in the 4.30am accident.

All victims died at the scene while the injured were admitted to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital, Kuantan, said Kemaman deputy police chief DSP Abdul Marlik Hakim Johar.

The dead were Noran Ali, 39, her three daughters, Nursyazleen Norizan, 12, Nur Syardiena, 9, and Nurkhairatul Najiha, 4, and two relatives, Wan Aspisar Wan Abd Kadir, 43, and Khairudi Omar, 31, who was behind the wheel.

The injured were Noran’s two other daughters, Nursakinah Norizan, 17, and her sister, Nursyafura, 13.

Abdul Marlik Hakim said all victims were from Kampung Gong Pauh here except for Wan Aspisar who was from Kampung Bukit Mentok here.

The express bus driver and 23 passengers were unhurt, he told reporters at the hospital here.

The family were headed for Kampung Bukit Tunggal, Kuala Terengganu to visit Noran’s oldest child from eight siblings, Nur Syamira, 21, and her two children age one and four years.

Meanwhile, Nursakinah Norizan and Nursyafura Norizan, who were admitted to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital, Kuantan for head and abdominal injuries, were reported to be in stable condition.

Their father, trader Norizan Othman, 49, said he was informed by the hospital of their condition and would visit them after the burial of his wife and his three children at the Kampung Gong Pauh Muslim Cemetery here
after the Asar (late afternoon) prayer.

“I was informed of the mishap at about 3am and I accepted the death of my wife and three children as fated,” he said when contacted. — Bernama
