120 golfers vie for challenge trophy

KUCHING: The highly fancied N6 Tupong golf team are all set to defend their crown at the P194 Golf Challenge Trophy golf tournament at the Sarawak Golf Club on Oct 21.

Formerly known as the Fadillah Yusof Golf Challenge Trophy, two other strong teams N7 Semariang, who won the event for three times, and N8 Satok will bid to dethrone Tupong.

This 7th edition of the tournament will see 120 golfers taking part in three categories to be contested, namely team, individual and invited guests.

It is aimed to further enhance the ties between the players of three teams who are voters from the Petra Jaya constituency.

Tupong, Semariang, Satok are the three state constituencies in the P194 Petra Jaya parliamentary constituency of which Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Fadillah Yusof is the patron.

In the team competition, each team shall field 30 players who will be eligible for the individual event prizes.

The winner of the team event shall be determined on gross score of stroke play for 15 players, taking account of the best five players from Category A, B, and C.

Category A is for players with 0 to 13 handicap, B is for handicap of 14 to 19 while C is for those with handicaps of 20 to 36.

A total of prizes in the form of electrical goods worth RM10,000 are up for grabs in the one-day event that will tee-off at 7.30am at the Santubong and Matang Nines. There are five prizes for the individual gross event and 10 prizes for the nett and four nett prizes for the invited guests’ category.

Apart from that, the organiser will also be giving away novelty prizes for the nearest to pin, nearest to line and longest drive.

The captains for Tupong, Semariang and Satok are Zekaria Hussaini, Waili Abang and Sukman Said respectively.

Housing Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg will close the event on Oct 21 at 2pm.
