Contractor jailed, fined for bribery

IPOH: A contractor was sentenced to a day’s jail and fined RM10,000, in default four months’ jail, by the Special Corruption Sessions Court here yesterday for bribery.

Judge Madihah Hairullah handed down the sentence on Mok Thin Meng, 47, after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

Mok was charged with giving RM1,000 to an assistant director at the Perak Land and Mines Department, Mohamed Nazrein Mohamad Salleh, as an inducement for the officer to not take action against him for illegal occupation of state land.

He was charged with committing the offence at the Padang Tamat R & R area, Pengkalan Hulu, at 12.05pm on March 2 this year.

Mok was represented by lawyer Ranjit Singh, while prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, A Hafizh Abu Bakar. — Bernama
