SIBU: Community leaders here have been reminded to make the effort to foster close rapport with government bodies in order to know government policies inside out.

In making the call, Temenggong Vincent Lau opined that by so doing they would be able to guide their people properly and prevent misunderstandings from arising.

He said this yesterday in his speech at a briefing on minimum wage for workers which will be enforced next year.

The event, which was arranged by the Sarawak Labour Department for community leaders, was held at the Sibu Resident Office.

Lau said community leaders were the bridge between the government and the people, and thus it was pertinent that they disseminate all messages correctly.

Sibu Resident Sim Kok Kee said he was prepared to arrange for more dialogue sessions between community leaders and government bodies if needed.

The briefing, in Mandarin, was conducted by the department’s assistant director Phang Pin.

Also present was its senior assistant director Asmaah Bujang.
