Robbers escape with RM100,000 gems

KUANTAN: Four masked men armed with pistols escaped with  jewellery worth RM100,000 from a goldsmith shop in Merapoh, near Kuala Lipis, Saturday afternoon.

In the incident at 5.30pm, the robbers also fired two shots that shattered the glass showcase before another robber hacked it open with an axe.

Kuala Lipis district police chief Supt Abdul Razak Hassan said the four suspects arrived at the shop four hours earlier pretending to be customers.

“The four robbers were believed to have escaped in a Proton Waja waiting  not far from the premise,” he said when contacted here, yesterday. — Bernama
