SIBU: Marathon runner Ling Mee Eng of the Extreme Marathon Sports Club (EMSC) stole the limelight when she was named the sole recipient of an incentive award for her outstanding performance in both local and international Marathon runs.

She received RM1,000 from club president Tang Kah Seng during the club’s 23rd anniversary dinner.

Her feat in international scenes included champions in ladies’ open Penang International Marathon in 1993, National Women’s category of the KL International Marathon 2012 and third position in the Penang International Marathon 2011.

Speaking at the function, Tang called for entries to next year’s Bukit Lima Forest Park Run which was inaugurated this year. He recalled only some 100 of the 200 club members who registered for this year’s run turned up because of inclement weather.

He said sponsor Datuk Wong Kuok Hea had actually urged all those who had registered for the run to turn up, saying poor turn-out might be detrimental to the promotion of marathon run here.

Wong had also stressed the importance of exercise to keep fit and healthy, Tang said.
