Filipinos, Indonesians jailed for illegal entry

KOTA KINABALU: Two Filipinos and two Indonesian men were jailed and ordered to be whipped once by the Sessions Court here for entering the state illegally.

Judge Azreena Aizi sentenced Indonesians Roy Martin, 31, and Leo Parera, 35, to four months’ jail while Filipinos Abdul Fahad Salih, 29, and Rani Jais, 32, were jailed four and five months respectively.

Each of them pleaded guilty to their respective charges under Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 which carries a jail term of up to five years and a fine not exceeding RM10,000 and is also liable to whipping of not more than six times.

Roy and Abdul Fahad were found to have committed the offences at Km3 of the Papar-Kota Kinabalu road and Papar Old Township respectively on Oct 4 and 8 this year.

Rani and Leo, meanwhile, committed the offences at Papar police station and near Kinarut police station respectively on Oct 3 and 9 this year.

The court ordered all the accused to be referred to the Immigration Department after their release from prison.

Deputy public prosecutor Wan Aiman Azwan Wan Fakhruddin prosecuted while all the accused were unrepresented.
