JOHOR BAHARU: A senior lecturer at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here yesterday to a cheating charge, involving RM16,000.

Mohd Effendi Daud, 39, is charged with cheating a resort operator, Paridah Husin, 46, by making her believe that UTHM was holding a certificate presentation ceremony for its students, which did not exist.

The offence was allegedly committed at UTHM on July 29 last year.

Judge Mohamad Haldar Abdul Aziz allowed Mohd Effendi bail of RM10,000 in one surety and set Nov 19 for mention.

Prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, Noor Fazlin Hamdan, while Mohd Effendi was represented by lawyer Mohd Razak Syarif. — Bernama
