Taxi driver charged with armed robbery

KUALA LUMPUR: A taxi driver pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here yesterday to a charge of committing armed gang-robbery on a Bangladeshi man last week.

M Ganapathy, 43, together with another person still at large, were charged with robbing Md Rofioo Islam , 27, at knife-point of about RM1,000 at the Segambut KTM station, Sentul here at 11.30am last Oct 9.

The charge carries a maximum imprisonment for 20 years and is also liable with whipping, if found guilty.

Judge Mohamad Sekeri Mamat allowed him bail of RM15,000 with one surety and set Nov 6 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Norasyikin Ahmad prosecuted, while lawyer Mohd Faizal Abdul Rahman represented Ganapathy. — Bernama
