SANDAKAN: A local woman was fined RM36,000, in default 360 days’ jail by the Sessions Court here yesterday after she was found guilty of allowing six illegal immigrants to enter or remain on a premises under her control.

Lucy Gillin, 30, pleaded guilty before Judge Ummu Khaltum Abdul Samad under Section 55E (1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

Lucy was fined RM6,000, in default 60 days, for each illegal immigrant under her care.

According to the facts of the case, Lucy was detained along with six other foreign women around 11.40pm on April 14 in a raid at an entertainment centre in Mile 6, here.

On investigation, six of the foreigners failed to show their valid travel documents and they were then detained under Section 6 (1) (C) of the Immigration Act for illegal entry.

All the accused, Roxane Pascua Laudit, Laly Cayanan, Evelyn Lacandazo Capili, Krhisna Tolentino, Margie Marie Tayuba and Rowena Tolentino were sentenced to three months’ jail, in default RM2,000 each, on May 3.

Lucy, who was the premises cashier, admitted that she was responsible for the premises, and was therefore found guilty by allowing the illegal immigrants to work at the premises.
