Illegal jailed 30 months for housebreaking

TAWAU: A 24-year-old illegal immigrant was jailed for 30 months by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for housebreaking.

Magistrate Suhaila Selag meted out the sentence on Mahadlan bin Sapaat who pleaded guilty to a reduced charge under Section 457 of the Penal Code which provides five years’ imprisonment and liable to fine.

Suhaila ordered the accused to serve the sentence from the date of arrest and the accused to be referred to the Immigration Department for deportation after serving the sentence.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Joan Lee told the court that the accused, with another person still at large, broke into Rosiah bte Mazli’ house at Kampung Hidayat, Mile 4, Apas Road at 4.30am on Oct 13.

The accused stole Rosiah’s handbag worth RM150, Joan said.

The victim found out about the theft at 7.01am and lodged a police report.

Police detained the accused on the same day at 11.17am at Kampung Kurnia Jaya, Mile 4, Apas Road.
