According to the Akta Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia, PIDM’s board of directors should consist of a chairman with relevant private sector experience, the Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), the Secretary General of the Treasury, two directors from the public sector and four directors from the private sector.

The Governor of BNM and Secretary General of the Treasury are ex officio directors.

Having served in the government for more than 30 years in various capacities, Irwan also served as a board member of notable organisations including the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), the Securities Commission (SC), the Suruhanjaya Pengangkutan Awam Darat (SPAD), the Suruhanjaya Koperasi Malaysia (SKM) and the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM).

“The Board of Directors and Management of PIDM look forward to his contribution to our Board deliberations and I am confident that PIDM will benefit greatly from his extensive public sector experience,” said Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Abdul Samad Alias, chairman of PIDM.

Irwan holds a PhD in Economics from the International Islamic University of Malaysia. He also received his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Demography from the University of Malaya and a Masters of Science in Energy Management and Policy from the University of Pennsylvania.
