Bako landowners withdraw application for judicial review

KUCHING: The landowners of disputed land in Bako here withdrew their application for judicial review yesterday.

According to their counsel Wong King Wei, they decided to withdraw the application after finding it was not appropriate when the case appeared for mention in the High Court here yesterday.

‘We will be looking for other suitable approach to solve the land matters after we felt that the judicial review is not appropriate,’ Wong said when met at the court house yesterday.

Thirty-six pieces of land are caught in a dispute with the government over the acquisition of the property.

More than 100 landowners had filed to seek leave for a judicial review to quash the acquisition of land by the government.

The Land and Survey Department and the Ministry of Resource Planning and Environment were named as the second and third respondents in the land dispute.
