KOTA KINABALU: Malaysia’s prime ministers had their own leadership style to develop the country and achieve prosperity for the people, said United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko) president Tan Sri Bernard Dompok.

Urging the people to accept this (leadership style), he said: “I have been with three prime ministers, Tun (Dr) Mahathir Mohamad, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and now, (Datuk Seri) Najib (Tun Razak) whose visions for the country I admire very much, especially his transformation programmes and 1Malaysia ‘People first, Performance now’ aspirations.”

Launching the Putatan Upko convention here yesterday, the Plantation Industries and Commodities Mminister said Najib should appropriately be acknowledged for the various social and economic successes achieved through the transformation programmes.

Dompok urged the people to allow Najib to prove his leadership as “development plans and programmes cannot be carried out in the blink of an eye”.

Meanwhile, he said the party machinery should reach out to the grassroots and enlighten them on the government’s policies and party struggles so that they would continue to support the Barisan Nasional (BN).

“It is important for the party to work as a team with other component parties to ensure a major victory for the BN in the coming general election,” he added. — Bernama
