KUCHING: Graduating students and staff from Batu Lintang Teachers Training Institute showed their talents in music and dance when they performed in the annual Musical Night at the campus on Sunday.

Themed ‘A Celebration of Joy and Achievement’, the event was one of the institute’s annual activities to showcase the talents of its staff and students in cultural performances.

The guests-of-honour for the Musical Night were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu and his wife Dato Sri Empiang Jabu.

Other distinguished guests included Batu Lintang Teachers Training Institute director Awang Hambali Awang Hamdan and State Education director Abdillah Adam.

The event was divided into seven segments, with each segment consisting of a combination of dances and singing by the students.

The song and dance performances also reflected all the races and ethnics in the country such as the Iban, Chinese, Bidayuh and Orang Ulu communities.

The songs sung by the students included Yuan Chu De Sheng Yin, Belaian Jiwa, Anak Kampung, Berserara Ngau Airmata, Jalak Lenteng, I Will Always Love You and the famous Wawasan Berkikis Bulu Betis which was written by Jabu himself.

Jabu, who was pleased with the effort and commitment of the organising committee, suggested that the event be held jointly with other teachers training institutes in the state in the future.

To show his appreciation and support for the Musical Night, Jabu contributed RM30,000 to the institute and pledged to contribute another RM35,000 for the same event next year.
