KUALA LUMPUR: A completed Malaysian Educational Development Plan (PPPM) 2012-2025 will be presented to the Conference of Rulers for consent to implement the plan that can bring a major shift in the country’s educational system.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said he appreciated the suggestions and views presented by the Regent of Perak, Raja Dr Nazrin Shah because every strata of society including the highest echelon must be directly involved in the plan.

“I appreciate his suggestion. It’s our hope that the Rulers will give their endorsement to this plan. I will make a presentation to the Rulers if this is allowed to brief them on the contents of the PPPM,” he said here yesterday.

He disclosed this to reporters after closing the National Convention on the Educational Management of Malaysian Outstanding Principals 2012 entitled ‘Education in Malaysia Past 2020’ and letters of appointment to 112 new outstanding principals.

When opening the convention on Monday, Raja Dr Nazrin suggested that the government presented the PPPM at
the Meeting of the Conference of Rulers so that it would get the consent before its implementation. On the statement by Raja Dr Nazrin that the plan should be kept in an incubator for some time until the political climate had cooled down out of fear of the political risk faced, Muhyiddin, who is also the Education Minister, said the plan was drawn up by experts who were skilled in the field of education and hoped that no one would politicise the plan.

“Under the present situation, even if they want to politicise it, they shouldn’t politicise it because it’s for the greater good. Altough the decision was made by the Prime Minister and I, the real preparations were made by experts taking into consideration the national education philosophy,” he said.

He said the PPPM was a document that contributed considerably to the people because it was presented to them and gave an opportunity to anyone who wanted to know about its contents while the ministry took note of every criticism and suggestion made by the people to improve the plan.

“Now, we have launched the blueprint and it’s not the final report. The final report will be completed after the cabinet approves it. That’s why we are still at the stage of engagement process,” he said.

Asked if the plan would be turned into an election manifesto, Muhyiddin said it was up to the Prime Minister.

“However, whether it is turned into a manifesto or otherwise, the document still remains a public document and we will implement it in the national interest. It will begin in 2013 and we cannot keep it too long,” he said. — Bernama
