KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman assured housing developers that the government would not lease out the land belonging to them to other parties.
He also said there was no difference in the land tenure, whether 99 years or 999 years, as renewals could be approved for as long as the present government remained.
“Such negative perception should be changed as both figures do not make any difference.
“Although the tenure is expected to end within 20 or 10 years, the government can renew the period as the land belongs to the people, not the government,” he said after receiving a courtesy call from the Federation of Malaysian Chinese Associations (FCAS) at the State Assembly Building, here, yesterday.
Commenting on Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Association’s (Shareda) request to allow housing developers to obtain land tenure of 999 years, instead of just 99 years, Musa said the matter could be discussed at the State Cabinet as it involved creating a new policy.
Meanwhile, Musa added that the high prices of land was due to the market, and was beyond his control.
“I am happy that a lot of investors are coming to Sabah to buy properties here, but at the same time, I worry that the prices would be more expensive,” he said.
Also present at the call were Industrial Development Minister Datuk Raymond Tan, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Peter Pang, acting FCAS acting president Datuk T C Goh and Shareda president Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen.
Musa also received a courtesy call from the chairman of the Land Public Transport Commission, Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar, yesterday.
Present were Sabah Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board chairman Datuk Teo Chee Kang and other board members.
