SANDAKAN: Electricity supply to residents and shops at Bangunan Kon Shing, Jalan Leila here was disrupted following attempts by thieves to steal the main power cable from the building last Saturday.
The thieves who were armed with machetes made two attempts to steal the cable during heavy rain in the early hours.
They succeeded in cutting the cable but could not remove it because their act was discovered by residents who went to check the source of the power disruption.
Although the suspects did not manage to cart away the cable, the damage was already done.
The property owners had to bear the cost of replacing the damaged cable after SESB officers explained to them that the cable was located within the building grounds.
Batu Sapi MP Office liaison chief Kong Nyuk Thou visited the scene with SESB officers on Monday after being informed of the incident.
He said the Batu Sapi MP Office would assist the residents and shop owners to look for a contractor which offers the lowest price to get the job done.
