Man gets jail time for housebreaking

MIRI: A man was sentenced to eight months’ jail by a Magistrates’ Court here after he pleaded guilty to a house-breaking and theft charge.

The accused, surnamed Chai, 33, from Permyjaya was charged under Section 457 of the Penal Code and read with Section 34 of the same code.

Chai committed the offence in Lopeng between 3am and 6am on Aug 24, last year.

He admitted breaking into a storeroom and stole 34 shock absorbers of various brands, three starters, four alternators, four shafts and a box of water proof abrasive paper belonging to Lee K F.

In unrelated case, a 31-year-old man was fined RM800 in default three months’ jail after he pleaded guilty to stealing a drill from his employer.

Awangku Mohammad from Taman Tunku was charged under Section 381 of the Penal Code for stealing the drill worth around RM350.

He committed the offence at an office in Kpg Lereng Bukit here on Oct 16.

A shoplifter was, meanwhile, ordered to pay a fine of RM200 in default three months’ jail after he admitted to stealing six boxes of Fair & Lovely Whitening Cream worth RM72 from a shop at China Street here.

Lipa, 48, from Kampung Masjid in Kuala Baram, was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code.
