KUCHING: For rising star Barbora Stefkova, it is a case of mother knows best as her mother travels with her to compete at the 20th Sarawak Chief Minister’s Cup (II) ITF junior tennis championship (Grade 3) here.

Her mother, Sylva Stefkova is her personal coach. She commented that her daughter is at the tournament to test her mantle against top opponents. Barbora however will not be playing until this Wednesday.

“We definitely come here to win the competition and I think with experience and a little bit of luck, we can make it,” Sylvia said.

Sylva continued that she and her daughter arrived in Malaysia from Japan where Barbora had just finished competing at a junior competition there.

“We have been travelling around the world for tournaments. I only want the best for my Barbora and this is one of our destinations,” she added.

For the record, the duo is from the Czech Republic and this is the first time that they had set foot on Borneo island.

Sylva also added that she love the hot and humid environment here and wants to get to know more about the state.

The Sarawak Chief Minister’s Cup (II) ITF junior tennis championship (Grade 3) competition starts today at the SLTA tennis grounds. All tennis enthusiasts are invited to come and witness the event.
