SPM student dies in road accident

SIBU: An 18-year-old girl, who was going to sit for her SPM exam next week, died after the motorcycle she was riding
hit a Proton Saga car on Saturday.

Vertina Seli from Bawang Assan succumbed to serious head and chest injuries.

The accident occurred at 2.30pm at Lebaan Bridge when she was riding a bike with a 14-year-old girl as her pillion rider.

Vertina’s family rushed her to the Accident and Emergency (A & E) Unit of the Sibu Hospital at 3.30pm where she did not regain consciousness.

Vertina died at around 5pm in the hospital.

The girl riding pillion sustained only slight injury.

In a separate case, a 19-year-old boy suffered injuries to his neck and head after the motorcycle ridden by him collided with a Kancil car yesterday.

The 10am accident happened at a traffic light along Mantis Road when the boy was heading from town to Lanang Road.

An ambulance rushed the injured boy to the A & E of the hospital here at 10.40am, where he passed out.
