Final day for ‘Feast Of Sacrifice’ in Belait

KUALA BELAIT: Yesterday was the final call for Muslims in the country to conduct Korban rites in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha, Borneo Bulletin reported.

Government and private agencies in the Belait District took the last chance for the year to distribute sacrificial meat to recipients, especially to the less fortunate families.

Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) also conducted the Aidiladha Korban ceremony at the Big Top of the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre yesterday afternoon in an annual religious event for BSP staff and families.

This year, 37 BSP staff members participated in the holy ritual of Korban, carried out by Mulaut Abattoir Sdn Bhd, which transported the meat to the venue for distribution.

Seven cows were ritually slaughtered and the Korban meat was distributed to 200 recipients by the guest of honour, Awg Samuil Mohidin, BSP Hydrocarbon Processing Manager, and other senior BSP management staff.

In another occasion, Suri Seri Begawan Hospital (SSBH) also conducted a ritual slaughter of Korban livestock and distribution of Korban meat at the hospital’s multi-purpose hall.

The Korban meat was distributed to 14 orphans, officers and staff of Suri Seri Begawan Hospital by Awg Hj Mohd Khairul Anuar bin Pehin Orang Kaya Pendekar Alam Dato Paduka Seri Hj Hasrin, chairman of the religious committee (SSBH).

Two buffaloes were ritually slaughtered in a “gotong-royong” manner, participated by 14 hospital officers and staff The event was also held concurrently with the slaughtering of five goats as Aqiqah livestock by four hospital staff:

Earlier that morning, the Village Consultative Council of Pekan Belait (MPK Pekan Belait) in collaboration with Muhammad Jamalul Alam Mosque Takmir committee held a Korban and Aqiqah ceremony at the MPM’s activity centre in Jalan Pemancha, Kuala Belait.

Four buffaloes and four goats were ritually sacrificed during the ceremony. The meat was distributed to underprivileged families, orphans and special children.

The guest of honour who handed out the Korban meat to the recipients was the Belait District Officer, Awg Hj Haris bin Othman, accompanied by the chairman of the event, Hj Pungut bin Hj Ali, the penghulu of Mukim Pekan Belait. The Korban ceremony also provided an opportunity for the Muhammad Jamalul Alam Mosque Takmir committee to cooperate with Mukim and Village Consultative Councils in the district and enliven the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration among the community members and local communities.
