Jailed for hurting another with parang

KUCHING: A man who pleaded guilty in a magistrates’ court here to hurting another man will be serving four months in jail after failing to settle his RM4,000 fine yesterday.

Norizwandi Bakri, 26, from Kampung Muhibbah admitted he had hurt Suhaili Nuli, 22, with a parang in Kampung Pinggan Jaya at 5pm on last Oct 1.

The brief facts of the case said the victim was slashed with a parang and hit on the body with the scabbard of the parang, causing injuries on the

forehead and receiving nine stitches for wounds on the left thigh.

Magistrate Portia Tham Ong Leng who presided over the case convicted Norizwandi of a charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which carries a

maximum three years’ jail term with fine or whipping upon conviction.  Inspector Austin Patrick Angkon prosecuted.

In another magistrates’ court, an elderly man charged with committing shoplifting last week claimed trial.

Lansie Gak, 66, from Sg Laru, Tabuan Jaya allegedly shoplifted a one kg packet of Milo and a packet of Boh tea from Unaco Supermarket at its Tabuan Laru premises.

He was caught at about 7pm last Oct 26. He is being charged under Section 380 of the Penal

Code which provides for a maximum 10 years’ imprisonment term and fine if convicted.

Magistrate Maris Agan set Nov 27 for the pre-trial case management with the trial fixed for Dec 17 and 18.

Inspector Yunus Sahak prosecuted.
