Sabahan jailed, fined for break-in

SANDAKAN: A local man here was sentenced to three years’ jail and fined RM5,000, in default, six months’ imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court here yesterday for housebreaking.

Mohd Erwan, 27, pleaded guilty before magistrate Mohd Zairi Zainal Abidin to a charge under Section 457 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term up to five years and fine.

On Aug 31 this year, a police report was made by the house owner after he found out that his television, two DVD players, two laptops and Playstation 3 portable player were missing from his home.

Acting on information, a team of police arrested the accused at an unnumbered house in Kampung Forest, Mile 1 1/2 on Oct 17.

From the investigation, the accused admitted breaking into the house with a friend who is still at large around 2am on Aug 31.

Two days after the arrest, the accused led the police to a man named ‘Darwin’ who had bought all the stolen items for only RM460. Police recovered some of the stolen items.
