KUALA LUMPUR: A security guard was fined RM2,000 by the Magistrates’ Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to mischief and using criminal force on a policeman to prevent him from discharging his duty on Saturday.

Magistrate Saifulakmal Said fined S Saravanan, 37, RM1,000 for each offence or in default, a month’s jail.

The accused had used criminal force to prevent a Lance Corporal (name not given) from carrying out his duty and also causing the policeman to drop his handphone resulting in its screen becoming broken.

He committed the offences at the police beat base at Pasar Seni, Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock here at 3pm on Oct 27.

He was charged under Section 353 of the Penal Code for the first offence (Using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty) and Section 427 of the same code for the second (Committing mischief and thereby causing damage to the amount of twenty-five ringgit).

Both provide for jail up to two years or fine or both, if convicted.
