ILLEGAL HARVEST: The longhouse residents load the FFB onto their truck.

BINTULU: An oil palm plantation at Tubau on Thursday lodged a police report claiming that eight longhouse residents had illegally entered its plantation to harvest about three tonnes of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) since Tuesday.

In the report made at the Bintulu one-stop centre, the company also claimed the longhouse residents refused to listen to security personnel who arrived later following a report from the plantation supervisor.

The residents on their part showed a police report claiming that the said oil palm company had failed to pay land compensation according to an agreement entered earlier, so they decided to harvest the FFB.

A spokesman of the oil palm company said it had entered into an agreement with the residents several years ago and had paid compensation to the landowners accordingly.

He said recently some residents claimed they had not received the compensation although the company still kept records of the payments but the misunderstanding was settled after clarification.

He added that the company decided to lodge a police report to avoid any further conflict.
